DAY 1.  Ulaanbaatar city

We will pick you up from Chinggis Khaan International Airport. Drop off at booked hotel for check in. Due to late flight arrivals there is no activities scheduled.  /Rest at the hotel/


 

DAY 2.  Ulaanbaatar – Sand dunesKhar Khorum old capital

Depart to the Sand dunes situated across Uvurkhangai and Bulgan province’s Erdenesat, Burd, Gurvanbulag soums for 80 km which has unique Gobi mountainous and fertile pastures. You will enjoy the sand dunes and ride central Asian two backed camel through the sand hills. Move on to the next destination called Khar Khorum know as the very first capital city of Mongol Empire.

After the death of Chinggis Khaan his inherit Ogoodei Khaan continued his prophecy and made the Khar Khorum capital a flourishing trade city. The magnificence of the city had been mentioned in Marco Polos travel note and in Mongolian Secret History. It is the most important trade stop of historical Silk Road’s merchants and you will find one of the ancient monasteries called Erdenezuun Monastery.

In Mongolian history Khar Khorum was the very first capital city, where the great adventurer Marco Polo had visited. The history of the old capital city starts between 1220-1380.

The Chinggis Khaan has ordered to make Khar Khorum the capital of the Mongol Empire since 1220 the building process had begun.

Erdenezuu Monestary - Long after the ruins of the Khar Khorum city, in 1586, the 29th generation of Chinggis Khaan, Abtaisain Khaan he started to rebuild the oldest monastery known for today. Erdenezuu monastery was known as the biggest and the largest monastery, the population developed to 62 temples, over 500 gers and houses resided by 10000 monks in 400x400 m walls, by 1793.

In 19th century due to the communist power most of the monasteries were destroyed and monks being killed and Ernedezuu was one of the temples. After the mass destruction, only 28 temples of Erdenzuu monastery are 

preserved and serves as a museum, the oldest temple of Mongolia in Tibetan style which is active in our days. 

The most fascinating part is the architectural structure of the monastery, where the Tibetan, Chinese and Mongolians have constructed the monastery without using a single nail.

DAY 3.  Khar Khorum old capital – Terkhiin tsagaan LakeKhorgo Volcano

We will depart from Khar Khorum old capital city toward to Tekhiin tsagaan lake located at Arkhangai province.

Terkhiin tsagaan Lake is fresh water reservoir located near the Khorgo Volcano at Tariat soum of Arkhangai province. It is beautiful lake where you will find small island in the middle, where most habitats are birds. One of the lake habitats are brant goose, the bird hunt for fish by diving under water almost 5 meters deep and other rare and endangered birds.

The following lake was listed as one of the best travel destinations from CNN in 2011.  

The Khorgo volcano was active many years ago about 6000-8000 years. It is known as inactive volcano that is surrounded by an eight kilometer stretch of basalt landscape littered with caves, ravines, and canyons from which the area got its name. The Khorgo is not only extinct, inactive volcano there are over 10 volcanos and has average height 2210 m in width and 70-80m in depth.

DAY 4.  Terkhiin tsagaan Lake – Shine Ider soum

We will continue our tour to Khuvsgul province as we say Switzerland of Mongolia. Khuvsgul province is located at the far north of the country and borders with Russian Federation. One of the gems of the province is Khuvsgul Lake which is the second largest fresh water reservoir in the world. At the end of the day we will arrive at Shine Ider soum and stay overnight at ger camp.

DAY 5.  Shine Ider soum – Murun – Khatgal

From Shine Ider soum pass by Khuvsgul province’s capital Murun city we will arrive at Khatgal soum. Khatgal soum is the located at southern tip of the lake.

Khuvsgul Lake is one of the oldest lakes which have a history of more than 2 million years and is the number one pure water reserve in the world and counted as largest lake with its volume and depth in Mongolia.

DAY 6.  Khatgal – Jankhai Hill – Khatgal

After breakfast we will take off to Jankhai hill. The hill is the perfect place to observe the Khuvsgul Lake’s wonderful features from the top. At the inner side of the mountain you will find reindeer herder families which are known as the oldest nomadic ethnic groups which have preserved the tradition for many years up until today.

DAY 7.  Khatgal - Ulaanbaatar city

After fascinating trip to Khuvsgul Lake, Switzerland of Mongolia, we catch flight Ulaanbaatar city. Rest of the day you will have time to visit State Department store and world famous cashmere shops. You will find high quality and latest high fashion cashmere goods with reasonable price.

DAY 8.  Ulaanbaatar city

After having breakfast at the hotel you will be able to get to know the city by visiting museum, historical places.

Places included in our itinerary:

The Sukhbaatar square the center point of the city. At the center of the square you will find 4 meter tall statue of commander D. Sukhbaatar, north side of the square you can see the Mongolian Government Palace.

 In the front of the Palace you will see the 5.4 meter tall statue of our Chinggis Khaan the father of Great Mongol Empire.

 

National Museum of Mongolia is the only museum which contains exhibit that shows the pure nature of our Mongolian tradition and nomadic culture, history with overall 50,000 exhibits in 10 halls.

Next destination takes us to Gandan Monastery where you will see magnificent Janraisag goddess which is 26,5 meters tall statue built from 27 tons of steel, 7500 of sheet gold, over 2000 different type of gems.

At the end you will be taken to Mongolian folk concert, where you will enjoy the unique techniques of throat singing, folk song, contortion performance, Mongolian horse head string instrument performance.
